Brendan Fletcher and Devi Telfer
Brendan Fletcher’s debut feature MAD BASTARDS (eOne; 2011), was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and Best Film and Best Original Screenplay at the Australian AACTA Awards. A renowned collaborator, Brendan has creatively partnered with Australia’s best, including: Academy Award winner Russell Crowe (TEXAS, Miramax), Indigenous Cultural Icon Kev Carmody (SONGMAN, ABC Television), one of Australia’s leading painters Del Kathryn Barton (OSCAR WILDE’S THE NIGHTGALE AND THE ROSE, featuring Geoffrey Rush and Mia Wasikowska, Berlinale 2015) and Cannes Award-winner Warwick Thornton (WE DON’T NEED A MAP, Opening Night Film Sydney Film Festival 2017).
Devi Telfer has a diverse body of work, ranging from dance, writing, acting to hip-hop. A dynamic performer known for her bold approach and deep commitment to Indigenous knowledge and stories, Devi is a proud Narungga and Kaurna woman and winner of the South Australian NAIDOC Artist of the Year. Devi wrote and performed her one-woman show SONG THE STORY OF A GIRL, A BIRD, AND TEAPOT, premiering at the Brisbane Powerhouse in 2015.
First working together over 25 years ago when Devi played the lead role in Brendan’s first short film GIRL (a work never to be seen since!), the pair have forged a strong creative friendship and dream together of bringing bold blackfella voices to the big screen.
